The Bank of England Lowers Base Rate

The Bank of England's monetary policy committee has lowered the base rate by 25 basis points to 5.25%. In lowering the rate, the committee cited "downside risks to the outlook for inflation" that included the continuation of the U.S. mortgage-woe-sparked global credit crunch. The MPC last lowered the U.K. bank rate in December when it also made a 25 bp cut.
