Loan Think

Coming Right Up

If it's springtime it's time for one of the things I anticipate the most in the mortgage calendar.

That's the SourceMedia Servicing Conference. We're going to be in Dallas again this year, April 17-19 at the Omni Mandalay. This is the 6th annual MSC we've done and with some related conferences we are now in the double digits when it comes to the collections side.

Let's take a look at the agenda (http://www.nationalmortgagenews.com/conferences/1_7/) and see if anything jumps out.

My first job will be on Tuesday, the 17th at 1 PM, when I'm set to host an on-the-record industry roundtable. I try to do one at all our conferences. They are always lively discussions with industry experts and we reprint them online and in the pages of National Mortgage News and Mortgage Servicing News as well.

Unfortunately, this creates a conflict for me because at the same time, we are running our annual servicer peer-to-peer group. I've hosted a couple of these and I can tell you by the end of the two hours, the room is humming.

We started doing this because servicers at our shows were getting annoyed at being mobbed like rock stars (actually not a terrible problem!). So we set up a servicers-only session. No vendors, Realtors or lawyers allowed in the room!

We sit them at tables and try to get a good mix going. Then we lead them through a facilitated discussion, or we give them a question or two to discuss at their own tables and then report to the group at large.

What we get back is thoughtful, focused, and sometimes provocative. I can't tell you anything more than that because these sessions are off-the-record, in order to stimulate candor.

A lot of servicers tell me this is a high point of the meeting for them—and we haven't even introduced the keynoter yet!
