How to Interview Like Larry King

Larry King has made a career (and millions of dollars) interviewing people. You can do the same thing-by interviewing experts, authors, speakers, and real estate agents from different parts of the country-yes, even agents in your lending area.

You'd be amazed how easy it is to get famous people to talk with you-for free! They want to build their brand and spread their ideas to people they would not normally have the opportunity to share them with-and you can give them that opportunity.

First, identify people (to interview) who you think your real estate agents would be interested in. Steve Kantor wrote a book called "Billion Dollar Agent" (BillionDollarAgent.com), where he interviewed 70 top agents throughout the country.

Another recommended book is "The Millionaire Real Estate Agent-It's Not About The Money, Its About Being The Best That you Can Be!" by Gary Keller.

Check to see if an agent in your area has been featured in either of the books.  Call/email and ask if you can interview them for your group of agents. Hey, if they agreed to be interviewed nationally, they should have no problem being interviewed for the local crowd.

Real estate agent coaches, like Tom Ferry, Dirk Zeller or Joe Stumpf would be thrilled to share some of their ideas. Google "coaching, real estate, Realtors," and you'll get over 600,000 results.

You can start by sending an email, introducing yourself, what you would like to interview them about, your audience and ask for a date and time to "pre-interview" them.

Pre-interviewing them (on the phone) is critical-so both of you agree on the content you think is most important to share.  Develop six to eight questions and email to them so they know what to expect.

Next, determine how you want to deliver the content. A "call in" conference call? Pre-record and post the replay link on your website, blog page, and Facebook page? Do you want to do a Go To Meeting session, include a Power Point, record and replay? There are tons of different options-you'll just need to pick one.

If you are planning to pre-record, you'll find recording software or Internet applications to record the audio. (Your computer may already have the capability.) Some software programs will also allow you to "edit" content.

Interviews don't have to be lengthy. In fact, five to 10 minutes is all you need if you practice with the person ahead of time, give a short introduction and get to the point quickly.

Finally, ask for permission to record and replay the interview. If they say yes, be sure to keep the email because that's your legal defense if they say they never allowed a recording/replay.

On a local level, interview a real estate agent who used the mortgage rules you shared with them-illustrating how you two were able to put the deal together and get it closed! This is a killer strategy that really works because people love stories-especially if they are true. Subliminally, an interview like this is a third party endorsement of your expertise and shows how you can help other agents put more deals together. Create a whole series of them, burn them on CDs and send to new agents to illustrate how you can help them too.

I hope this idea is just another way you can become the mortgage expert in you little corner of the real estate world.
