Loan Officer Formula for Success

I know you won't do this but I'm going to at least try, ok? Turn off your TV and radio. Stop reading all the negative talk in the newspapers. I'm here to tell you that there is still business to be had. Yes, the market is tougher. Yes, deals are harder to come by. But, people are still buying and selling homes. People are still relocating, dying, moving into nursing homes. People are still in need of you and your services, so go out there and make them find you.

If you remember, I told you that I have survived and thrived thru six or seven of these "melt-downs." Yes, this one is a doozey! There's no getting away from it. Again, there is still business going on out there, and you need to get your share of it. Looking back, I'm glad I started when I did. Things were tough, doubledigit interest rates, THE CARTER YEARS! Yuck! But as a young kid I really didn't know any better. So I was successful while many left the business and others were popping Valium and whining about how bad things were.

You MUST stay away from these negative people. They will poison you mentally. They will tell you NOT to try this or that. They will tell you that will never work. WHY? Some are just jealous. They don't want to see anyone else succeed or do better then them. Others are just STUPID -- It's easier to cast blame and talk about how bad things are, it's much harder to actually go out there and do well. Yet others have tried some things and given up right before they were about to succeed. That happens a lot. They try something and if it doesn't work immediately, they say, "the tactic doesn't work." Then, they are off chasing the next shiny object or magic pill. The real success comes when you keep working on a strategy until you get it to work, then you can use it successfully over and over again like your own personal ATM machine.

I also want to tell you about another quality that you MUST have if you want to be successful, YOU MUST BE IMMUNE TO CRITICISM. You will never survive, let alone thrive if you have thin skin. When I get on a topic and believe in it, I am totally immune to what anyone else thinks or says about me. Just do what you know is right and don't worry about the naysayers, this brings me to my last important point here. If you want to really be successful, find someone who has already accomplished what you want to accomplish and then model what they do.

So when that "Negative NELLY" comes up to you with their unsolicited advice, ask them how much they make. If it is less then you want to make or are making, dismiss them immediately. If they are making what you want to make, then I suggest you pay attention to them and even model what they are doing.
