A recent commercial from Optimum, a unit of Cablevision which is a cable television/bundled services provider on Long Island, N.Y., had a very creative use of its celebrity spokesman.
Supposedly singer Michael Bolton’s phone number is one number different than the number for Optimum and people are calling him instead of getting the cable company.
The tag line: “Please don’t call Michael Bolton.” He never even endorses the product. A marketing piece with a sense of humor and a little bit of a twist could be a very effective way to reach people.
