Home Prices Rise 0.3% from March to April: FHFA

The price of homes rose 0.3% in April from the previous month, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Prices rose 5.3% from a year earlier.

Prices in the East North Central region fell 0.8% from March to April, the biggest decline, according to the FHFA's monthly House Price Index. That region, as defined by the FHFA, includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Home prices rose fastest in the Pacific region, on a year-over-year basis, climbing 7.5% in April. The Pacific region includes Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.

The FHFA calculates its House Price Index based on sales price information from mortgages sold to or guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
