Housing Prices Climb in September: Black Knight

Home prices rose slightly in September, posting year-over-year growth of 5.5%, according to Black Knight Financial Services.

In its monthly report, the Jacksonville, Fla., mortgage data services company said its home price index climbed to $253,000 — a 0.1% increase from August.

Just 5.4% shy of the peak reached in June 2006, the September level represents a 26.9% increase from the recession trough of January 2012.

Based on repeat sales data gleaned from public records, as well as Black Knight's own mortgage performance data, the numbers also displayed striking regional differences.

Prices in New York rose 0.9%, leading the pack of appreciating states for the third month in a row. Wisconsin and Utah, which each saw prices rise 0.7%, were next.

Meanwhile, bottom performers Connecticut and North Carolina, which both saw home prices drop by 0.7%, also together accounted for 7 out of the 10 most depreciating metropolitan areas.
