Commercial, Multifamily 1Q Delinquency Rates Improve: MBA

The delinquency rate for commercial and multifamily mortgages improved in the first quarter for most categories of investor, on higher property income, rising property values and a strong finance market.

Delinquencies improved from the previous quarter for all investor groups except Fannie Mae, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

The following investor groups reported improvements: life insurance companies, down by 0.02 percentage points to 0.06%; Freddie Mac, down by 0.01 percentage point to 0.03%; banks and thrifts, down by 0.11 percentage points to 1.03%; and commercial mortgage-backed securities, down by 0.19 percentage points to 5.17%.

Fannie Mae's delinquencies rose by 0.04 percentage point to 0.09%.
