FAA Approves First Real Estate Drone

The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday authorized the first use of drones for real estate photography.

The agency gave permission to Douglas Trudeau, a broker at Tierra Antigua Realty in Tucson, Ariz., to use an unmanned aircraft system to create videos for real estate listings.

The approval allows him to use a remote control-powered flying HD camera, known as a Phantom 2 Vision + quadcopter.

Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx concluded that the drone activity does not pose a threat to national airspace users or national security, according to a Jan. 6 press release.
