Dallas-area home price increases outpaced the nation in May

Dallas-area home prices were up 7.1% in May, according to a new report by CoreLogic.

Nationwide prices were 6.6% higher in May than in May 2016, CoreLogic said.

The largest year-over-year price increases among cities that CoreLogic tracks were in Denver, 9.2%, and Las Vegas, 7.3%.

CoreLogic predicts that nationwide home prices will rise 5.3% during the next year.

"The market remained robust with home sales and prices continuing to increase steadily in May," Frank Nothaft, chief economist for CoreLogic, said in the report. "While the market is consistently generating home price growth, sales activity is being hindered by a lack of inventory across many markets."

Median home sales prices in North Texas were 12% higher in the first five months of 2017 compared with the same period last year, according to data from local real estate agents.

Dallas-Fort Worth home prices are at an all-time median high of more than $250,000.
