I utilize a daily to-do list and always hope to get everything crossed off by the end of each day, but there are usually a few tasks the get carried over. Some days more than others. Every once in a while, I will have what I call a "100% Day." It's pretty simple - I commit to doing EVERYTHING on my list. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.
It's important to be intentional with this. This means I carefully select what goes on the list for that day, including items that I have been procrastinating because there hasn't been a sense of urgency. I make my list pretty long, but realistic that I can finish all of the items or spend the allotted time on the task if it is an ongoing project. If the task cannot be completed, I put a time limit for the task next to it.
I include business and personal items, since it is often the personal items that I procrastinate more than work-related. This requires me to really think about loose-ends, expectations and the importance of things. It's kind of like the day before you go on vacation; everything needs to be in order and accomplished.
The great thing about this strategy is that it creates amazing momentum. I do not waste time and make quick decisions to move my actions forward and accomplish everything I am committed to. It takes a lot of focus to be successful and the best part is the way I feel at the end of the day.
Here are a few ideas for your 100% day task list:
·
· Make two lunch appointments for the next week
· Complete 2015 sales plan
· Make an appointment for teeth cleaning (this was on my to-do list for three months once)
· Update marketing budget. Analyze past expenses
· Plan fun date with one of your kids
· Start process for
·
· Review recent investor changes; should take 30 minutes
· Old prospect follow up; should take 30 minutes
Remember that you have a specific amount of time to accomplish everything on your list and life still happens. You will get interrupted, a file will have a problem and your phone will continue to ring. Push yourself, but keep your list and expectations realistic.
Accomplished would be the best way to describe the feeling at the end of my 100% days.
