The new partnership with Stillman & Friedman PC brings together the firms’ white-collar criminal defense with Ballard Spahr’s securities litigation and enforcement practices.

It integrates the resources and leveraged capabilities of the two firms and expands Ballard Spahr’s presence to 14 U.S. locations.

Ballard Spahr Stillman & Friedman LLP finalizes a move that was years in the making, according to Ballard Spahr chair Mark Stewart.

The merger complements Ballard Spahr’s strengths and dovetail with its strategy to enhance the litigation platform and geographic reach, Stewart stated in a company release. Expansion possibilities include all practices, “real estate, business and finance, intellectual property and public finance,” he said.

Ballard Spahr Stillman & Friedman will provide white-collar defense and complex civil litigation, along with expertise in securities enforcement and litigation, professional liability and appellate work.

All 14 lawyers from Stillman & Friedman are now part of Ballard Spahr Stillman & Friedman.

Since 1977 when Charles Stillman, a trial lawyer specializing in white-collar criminal defense, and Julian Friedman founded Stillman & Friedman in New York, the firm has represented public figures, political leaders, and Fortune 500 corporations and executives in a wide range of litigation and investigations.

According to Stillman, the partnership “is an excellent fit for both firms,” because they share the same vision—to provide services to the largest corporations and individuals—“while never losing sight of the human dimension and the practical consequences of the litigation process.”

The creation of Ballard Spahr Stillman & Friedman is in line with Ballard Spahr’s long-term goal to continue the expansion of its national litigation practice. “The firm will continue to focus on the strategic growth of our national litigation capabilities,” said John Langel, chair of the firm’s litigation department.

Earlier this month the firm added five litigators from Featherstone Petrie DeSisto LLP to its Denver office.

The New York office follows the opening of the firm’s 13th office in San Diego and the addition of a team of white-collar and commercial litigators from La Bella & McNamara two years ago.
