Don Blandin, president and chief executive of Investor Protection Trust, which provides education services, said, "Our primary goal is to expand and improve the communication between medical professionals, older Americans, adult children and state securities regulators in order to head off swindles before the damage is done."

Between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Nov. 10, three separate call-in lines will be available.

There will be one line for medical questions; a medical professional will answer questions about cognitive impairment issues that make seniors vulnerable to financial abuse and exploitation.

Another line will be staffed by the Financial Planning Association to handle general finance questions.

Finally, there is a third line to deal with financial abuse issues, including helping callers take the proper steps if they suspect a loved one is being financially abused or exploited.

A spokesman for the sponsors of the event said IPT and its partners think the Nov. 10 event will serve as a resource to get people to connected to local professionals in their states who can assist them going forward.
