Cash is King in Alabama

Alabama isn't exactly a hotbed of housing activity. But folks in three of the Cotton State's markets put more money down than home buyers in any other locale.

According to Housing Intelligence, the research division of the Hanley-Wood publishing company, buyers in Mobile, Daphne and Huntsville are less dependent on financing than anywhere else in the country. In other words, cash in king in the Heart of Dixie.

Buyers in Mobile and Daphne showed their independence from FICO scores and stern underwriting guidelines in the first quarter by financing just over 60% of what they paid for their homes. And in Huntsville, buyers financed just 62.3% of the purchase price.
