Brian Vieaux has joined Flagstar Bank, Troy, Mich., as senior vice president and head of its home lending division, which is the retail lending operation.

In this role, he is in charge of the bank's 30 home loan centers, most of which are in Michigan. But Vieaux is also tasked with overseeing the home lending division's expansion nationwide.

In an interview with NMN, he said while there is no set goal for how many branches Flagstar is looking to add, by the end of the year Vieaux is looking for between five and 10 to be in the queue to come aboard if not actually up and operational.

While it is a national expansion, Flagstar is taking an "opportunistic approach," and is looking to bring aboard branch managers who fit into its culture, he said. This includes having a business model that supports purchase money transactions.

As part of its recruitment process, there is a person based in the Pacific Northwest looking for West Coast opportunities, one in Atlanta looking for opportunities in the South and one in Boston looking for opportunities in the Northeast. Another person is in Michigan, looking to leverage opportunities in Flagstar's retail banking footprint.

Before joining Flagstar, Vieaux was senior vice president, national sales director at Aurora Bank in St. Louis.
