Susanna Roberts, chief technology officer at appraisal software vendor ACI and Adrian Newby, chief technology officer at Veros, will lead the Aug. 17 webinar, “Extracting the Facts: What You Need to Know About PDF Extraction for UCDP.” The event starts at 1 p.m. EDT and is free, though online registration is required.

Santa Ana, Calif.-based Veros is the vendor who built and is maintaining the Uniform Collateral Data Portal, the platform that lenders and their appraisal company agents will use to deliver full electronic appraisal reports to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

PDF extraction, or scraping, is widely considered a stopgap technology as more electronic data gatherers, like mortgage loan officers and appraisers, shift to XML-based technology that provides a better method for transmitting and organizing data, as well as mining individual data points from a stream of information.

Most appraisers already generate their reports with XML-enabled form-filling software. But for lenders who only receive PDF reports, Veros will provide technology to pull the data points off the appraisal form as an add-on service to the UCDP.

Other vendors are also providing PDF scraping of appraisals, as well as direct integrations into the UCDP, which eliminate the task of manually uploading files to the browser-based portal.
