Home prices nationwide rose 0.4% from June to July, according to Black Knight Financial Services.

New York posted the highest gains, among all states, rising 1.4% on a monthly basis. Hawaii was second at 0.8%, followed by Florida, Ohio and Oregon.
Janesville, Wis., and Palm Bay, Fla., tied for the fastest-growing metro area, each rising 1.4%. They were followed by Utica, Ithaca, Buffalo and Glens Falls, N.Y., each rising 1.3%.
The Jacksonville, Fla., company's Home Price Index represents the price of nondistressed home sales, including as factors price discounts for other real estate owned and short sales. Black Knight produces the index from its own property and loan-level databases, based on transactions for more than 18,500 ZIP codes.
