HomeFree Opens Baltimore Office, Plans Vacant Home Rehabs

HomeFree-USA, a group that provides counseling to potential homebuyers, has opened a Baltimore office and introduced a campaign to promote neighborhoods in West Baltimore that had been ravaged by riots.

HomeFree-USA's new office is located in the Pigtown neighborhood on Washington Boulevard in southwestern Baltimore. HomeFree-USA's headquarters is located in Riverdale, Md., in suburban Washington, D.C.

The new program, called "Move Up in Maryland," will acquire and rehabilitate vacant properties in West Baltimore, and then resell the homes. The homes will be sold to low- and moderate-income families.

"With increased homeownership and great looking neighborhoods, residents will be proud and the city will be positioned for further growth," HomeFree-USA's president, Marcia Griffin, said in a news release.

HomeFree-USA has several partners in the program, including the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, the City of Baltimore, Bank of America and Ocwen Financial.

HomeFree-USA is approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide counseling to homebuyers.
