How we pick the Best Mortgage Companies to Work For
National Mortgage News is pleased to present the second annual Best Mortgage Companies to Work For, a survey and awards program dedicated to identifying and recognizing the industry's best employers and providing these organizations with valuable employee feedback about their strengths and weaknesses.
The program is a collaboration between National Mortgage News and the Best Companies Group, which conducts extensive employee surveys and reviews employer reports on benefits and policies.
The employee survey covers eight topics: Leadership and Planning; Corporate Culture and Communications; Role Satisfaction; Work Environment; Relationship with Supervisor; Training, Development and Resources; Pay and Benefits; and Overall Engagement.
The survey results reveal a strong correlation between employee satisfaction and organizations that prioritize transparency, accountability and personal growth. On the lighter side, food — tacos, in particular — also plays an integral role in developing a sense of community and comradery at leading mortgage companies.
Following a thorough assessment of the organizations, the survey data is analyzed and the companies receive an overall score that determines their rankings.
The overall score is comprised of employee survey (worth 75%) and the employer questionnaire (worth 25%). There is a minimum response rate required on the employee survey to qualify for consideration: 40% for organizations with 25 or more employees; 80% for less than 25 employees.
Companies must opt-in to the rankings and participation is open to standalone mortgage lender, mortgage broker, or mortgage servicer, or mortgage unit of a diversified financial services firm with at least 15 permanent employees working in the United States. The survey also includes open-ended questions and demographic questions. Not all companies that participate in the survey make the list.
