Interest rates on fixed-rate mortgages remained largely unchanged this week, according to Freddie Mac.
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.96% for the week ending Dec. 24, according to Freddie Mac's weekly Primary Mortgage Market Survey. That's one basis point lower than the 3.97% average from a week ago. On a year-over-year comparison, the rate is up from 3.8%.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage remained unchanged from last week at an average 3.22%. It was 3.1% a year ago.
The five-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgage averaged 3.06%, up from 3.03% last week, and 3.01% a year ago.
At least some of the market volatility is due to the holiday week, said Sean Becketti, Freddie Mac chief economist, in a Thursday news release.
