The Financial Services Roundtable said that Paul Smocer has been named president of BITS, the technology policy division of the roundtable.
Smocer most recently served as executive vice president at BITS, where he led initiatives to enhance email security and to advance practices for identifying and validating online customers.
He succeeds Leigh Williams, who recently departed the roundtable to serve as director of the Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Compliance Policy at the Department of the Treasury.
WASHINGTON
The American Association of Bank Directors named John Courson to its board of advisors.
Courson has had a distinguished career in representing the mortgage banking and the real estate industry as chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association and past president of the California, Dallas and Michigan Mortgage Bankers Associations.
In addition, he was the head of a national multichannel mortgage lender and served as the chairman of the California Housing Finance Agency.
Courson currently serves as senior advisor to Treliant Risk Advisors, a compliance and risk management advisory firm focused on the financial services industry and is on the board of directors of Main Street Bank, Bingham Farms, Mich.
