Scott Garrett to Keynote Mortgage Regulatory Forum

Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ), Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises and a leading advocate for reforming Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, will be the keynote speaker at National Mortgage News’ 2nd annual Mortgage Regulatory Forum on Thursday, Sept. 13 in Arlington, Va.

Garrett recently came out strongly in support of the FHFA‘s decision not to allow principal reductions. “As the FHFA's thorough analysis confirms, the cost to the American taxpayer of principal forgiveness far outweighs the benefits to the overall housing market,” Garret said.

Garrett is known as a top critic of the Dodd-Frank Act, and has introduced legislation to stop the Financial Stability Oversight Council from designating nonbanks as systemically important.

Offering the second keynote speech at the event will be Martin Gruenberg, Acting Chairman, FDIC. Other sessions will include regulators from the Department of Justice and the conference of state banking supervisors. Industry advisors and strategists will also offer advice and interpretation on new rules from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, emerging trends in federal fair lending enforcement and navigating the minutiae of the AG servicing settlement.

“Last year’s Reg Forum with Barney Frank and other members of Congress was a hot news show,” said Mark Fogarty, editor of National Mortgage News and conference chair. “This year’s is looking like more of the same.”

The 2nd Annual Mortgage Regulatory Forum will be co-hosted with American Banker’s Regulatory Symposium and offer attendees access to all keynote and breakout sessions. More information about the event and the complete agenda can be viewed here.
