Service Members Get JPM Elite Benefits

JPMorgan Chase & Co. can't stop trying to make up for its transgressions against military personnel.

The bank said it was extending premier checking account benefits typically reserved for its elite customers to active-duty members of the armed forces, along with members of the National Guard and reserves.

The benefits of the interest-bearing checking account include no monthly fee or balance requirements; no fees on non-Chase ATM withdrawals, wire transfers, money orders or travelers checks; a free safe deposit box; and two additional premier checking accounts with no monthly fees.

To receive the added benefits, military customers must have their pay directly deposited into their Chase account. Current military customers with direct deposit were automatically upgraded to the new account July 1.

The move is the bank's latest initiative to better serve its military customers after it admitted this year to foreclosing on service members' homes while they were overseas.

In addition to launching a new low-fee mortgage program, the bank has committed to providing 1,000 homes to veterans in the next five years through its nonprofit partners and has pledged with other firms to collectively hire 100,000 veterans by 2020.
