WFG National Title Insurance Co., Portland, Ore., is making progress towards its goal of becoming a national underwriter of title insurance with the approval by regulators in Michigan to write business there. It can now write policies in 43 jurisdictions.
“Michigan is one of the industry’s largest title markets, and we intend to hit the ground running there,” said Charles Cain, WFG’s senior vice president, agency, Midwest region.
“Although WFG National Title may be new to Michigan, our agency support team is not. The members of our team have all worked in that market during previous stints with other underwriters, and we are confident that agencies in Michigan will welcome our agent-focused approach.”

Williston Financial’s president and chief executive is Patrick Stone, the former president and chief operating officer of Fidelity National Financial. In an interview in 2010, six months after he acquired some of the units which now make up WFG, Stone said his plans were to make the company a national title underwriter. At that time, it was in 33 states.
