A Lesson on Change from Dr. Martin Luther King

"Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent."—Martin Luther King, Jr.

Many times we get this idea that just because we desire change or maybe we "have a dream" that this change or dream will just one day just magically come to be in our lives. Many believe if you just wish, hope and pray long and hard enough, the dream will come to pass.

But the truth is this: Most dreams involve work.  Most dreams involve perseverance.  Most dreams involve a struggle.  Most dreams involve a sacrifice.

When we have a dream, even if that dream is from God, it does not mean that it will come to pass inevitably or that it will be easy or quick and without struggle or sacrifice. Dr. King's life and death are evidence of this. May we remember this message this week as we honor Dr. King and his dream ("I Have A Dream").
