It used to be that if Fannie Mae did something it was a sure bet that "little brother" Freddie Mac soon would follow. But that may not be the case on revamping how servicers are paid by the GSEs. Sources tell National Mortgage News that Fannie is leaning toward a 3 basis point servicing fee while Freddie wants something closer to the present rate of 25 basis points. This is all very preliminary at this point, and neither GSE would comment. Their regulator, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, had nothing to say on the matter.
