Mortgage Loan Delinquencies Fell in January: Black Knight

Mortgage loan delinquencies declined in January, according to Black Knight Financial Services.

The percentage of loans at least 30 days past due but have not yet gone into foreclosure fell 7.1% to 5.09% for the month, compared to a year earlier.

The rate of foreclosure presale inventory fell 25.69% to 1.3%. Total foreclosure starts fell 22.94% to 71,900. The monthly prepayment rate fell 7.88% to 0.81%.

The number of properties that were at least 30 days past due, but not in foreclosure, fell by 189,000 properties to about 2.6 million.

The number of properties that were at least 90 days past due, but not in foreclosure, fell by 229,000 properties to about 831,000.

Mississippi led all state, with 13% of mortgages there delinquent or in foreclosure. It was followed by Louisiana, New Jersey, Alabama and West Virginia.

North Dakota had the lowest percentage of non-current mortgages at 2.41%, followed by Colorado, Alaska, Minnesota and South Dakota.
