Fannie Integrates Proprietary Appraisal Application into Other Tools

Fannie Mae has incorporated Collateral Underwriter into its Desktop Underwriter and EarlyCheck offerings.

By integrating Collateral Underwriter into these other tools, the government-sponsored enterprise aims to facilitate how lenders manage risk when underwriting loans, according to an April 20 news release.

"This integration is the next step in our efforts to make it easier to work with Fannie Mae by helping lenders to efficiently manage risk and build strong, profitable businesses," said Marianne Sullivan, Fannie Mae's senior vice president for single-family business capabilities, in the release.

Announced in October 2014 and released in January, Collateral Underwriter gives lenders access to underlying appraisal, public records and other data to establish the risk on an appraisal. Fannie Mae said that the Collateral Underwriter risk score, flags and messages for appraisals will display in DU and EarlyCheck as a result of this integration.

The CU risk score can also be used to segment appraisals by risk, to help make originators' resource allocation more efficient and improve workflow management and collateral risk management.
