Massachusetts home sales up nearly 40% over decade

Home sale prices in Massachusetts continued their ascent in July, setting a new all-time high for the month and rising to a level nearly 20% higher than five years ago and nearly 40% higher than July 2009.

The Warren Group reported Wednesday that home sales in July were down 4.6% compared to July 2018 while the median sale price of a single-family home that changed hands last month was $425,000, a record for the month of July.

The median home sale price in Massachusetts during July 2014 was $355,000, and $305,000 during July 2009, based on previous reports from The Warren Group.

Warren Group Associate Publisher Cassidy Norton said in a statement, "Don't be surprised if we continue to see major price gains on a year-over-year basis in the coming months."

Over the first seven months of 2019, home sales in Massachusetts are down 1.8% and the median sale price of $400,000 is up 3.9%, compared to the same period in 2018.
