The top 50 MPCs notched 16,481 of the 306,000 new home sales in 2011. The Villages outside of Orlando led the way with 2,307 deals, followed by the Woodlands north of Houston, which nailed 945 deals.
Overall, 20 of the top 50 properties were located in the Lone Star State.
Pulte, Lennar and Ryland were the three public builders with the greatest presence in the most successful projects. Pulte and its Del Webb division were active in 18, while Lennar was in 14 and Ryland in 13.
Nine of the top 50 had no public builders, according to the Burns report.
Master-planned communities are defined as large-scale developments that can include a wide array of real estate product, multiple builders, diverse amenities and nonresidential use. The concept is designed to appeal to a wide array of buyers by creating a superior “place” with segmented product types that share a common design and marketing theme.
