Prices were boosted by monthly increase in the country's 40 largest metro areas. Home prices in Reno, Nev., for instance, increased 1.9%, while prices in New Haven, Conn., were up 1.5%.

Average prices across the country, however, remain 10.4% below their peak in June 2006, according to the report.
