Single-Family Starts Rise for Fourth Straight Month in June

Single-family housing starts rose 4.7% in June from the month prior and units under construction are up 20% from a year ago.

The Census Bureau reported Wednesday morning that single-family starts rose to a 539,000 seasonally adjusted annual rate in June, up from a 515,000 rate in May.

Since February, single-family starts have increased four months in a row.

Multifamily construction jumped 17% in June after a 22% dip in May.

In June, construction of multifamily units rose to a 213,000 seasonally adjusted annual rate from an 182,000 rate in May.

Overall, multifamily construction is up nearly 30% from June 2012.
