Your Social Media Marketing Efforts

I've been working on a new e-book and recently wrote up the chapter on social media. I definitely have opinions on this—and here is a little bit of that:

Processing Content

Facebook is such a great connecting tool for your business but it is not all about business. In fact if your Facebook is all about business you will slowly lose the interest of your online friends. Here are my tips for using Facebook for business:

• Send friend requests to people as you meet them through your networking activities or new referrals. When I send a friend request, I also send a quick message that it was nice meeting them or that I am glad we will be working together on a transaction.

• Be personable. Not a stalker. Not in your face.  Simply be personable. It’s hard for me to define this but I’m pretty sure you know what I mean. Don’t comment on every post of someone you barely know.

• Be random with work-related posts but definitely make this a part of your presence on Facebook. People need to be reminded of what you do, just not too often.

• Share but don’t share. Okay–this is my opinion, but I really don’t want to know that your kid threw up all night. I don’t want to see 35 posts about cats. If you only post inspiration quotes, I will probably stop reading them. Don’t use harsh language and keep political thoughts mostly to yourself.
