Home Prices Rose 5.3% in January: Black Knight

Home prices rose 5.3% in January compared to the previous year, according to Black Knight Financial Services.

The Black Knight home price index, based on repeat sales data culled from public records and from Black Knight's mortgage performance data, climbed to $253,000 in January, the company announced Monday.

Home prices had climbed by 5.5%, year-over-year, in December.

Prices in New York State rose 0.9%, on a monthly basis, the fastest growth rate among all states, while Illinois saw the most negative movement at -0.4%.

Florida and Pennsylvania accounted for nine of the top 10 best performing metropolitan areas. Port St. Lucie and Naples, Fla., and Lebanon, Pa., lead at 0.9% appreciation from December.

California accounted for half of the 10 worst performing metro areas, with Bakersfield home prices experiencing the largest monthly drop at 0.9%.
