The Mortgage Bankers Association's annual convention returns to the Lone Star State in 2019, but for the first time, the Texas capital city of Austin plays host.

Austin might be most famous as the host of the South by Southwest conference and festivals, but MBA Annual 2019 will bring its own sizzle to this tech hub.

Besides getting the opportunity to hear from industry leaders on innovation and successful strategies, a plethora of non-industry notables will be on site as well, topped off with a concert by country music star Keith Urban.

To stay up-to-date on all the happenings at the conference, follow National Mortgage News on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.
William McRaven

Admirable opener

Kicking off the conference on Monday morning features retired four-star Navy Admiral William McRaven, Texas Sen. John Cornyn, as well as the MBA's leadership team. This year's chairman, Christopher George, Chairman-elect Brian Stoffers and CEO Bob Broeksmit will give the opening remarks.

Hear the new GSE heads

Hugh Frater stepped in as interim CEO of Fannie Mae shortly before last year's annual convention; in March, the government-sponsored enterprise's board hired him for the permanent job. That was a week after Freddie Mac promoted its president, David Brickman, to the CEO slot. Following the release of the Treasury Department report, it is an opportunity to hear the new leadership's standpoints.
Mark Calabria

The regulators weigh in

As the discussion around housing finance reform heats up, the person in charge of the agency that oversees the GSEs, Mark Calabria, will address MBA members. Joining him on the panel is Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.
Mike Fratantoni

2020 vision

Look ahead to next year with expert analysis of trends, metrics and strategies of the housing and mortgage market. The MBA's chief economist Mike Fratantoni and industry analysis vice president Marina Walsh will be joined by Bank of America's consumer lending executive Patrick Carey to give insight into 2020's market. Plus as the industry continues to deal with constraints on margins, there is a concurrent session discussing maintaining profitability.
