Ditech Gives Rejected Loan Applicants a Second Chance

Walter Investment Management Corp. subsidiary Ditech Financial will begin to enroll a number of rejected loan applicants in a new program aimed at helping people qualify for a mortgage.

The web-based program, called HLP.Guru, pairs prospective homebuyers with a certified nonprofit housing counselor to help them create a plan on how to qualify for a mortgage. Ditech plans to choose roughly 2,000 prospective homeowners during the next six months and will pay for their membership in HLP.Guru.

"Ditech wants to help make homeownership possible for as many Americans as we can," Ditech Senior Vice President Laura Reichel said in a news release Monday. "By offering access to HLP.guru, potential homebuyers can get the tools and guidance needed to make that dream easier to reach."

HLP.Guru is owned by Baltimore-based nonprofit HLP and was introduced earlier this year. The app was developed for HLP by Dallas-based consumer credit modeling company CE Analytics.

Beyond expanding access to credit, the program could help to improve Ditech and its parent company Walter's reputations. Ditech had the second lowest satisfaction score in J.D. Power's latest mortgage servicing survey and rankings released in July.
